National Council 2010-2011

President - Suzanne Gibbs MRNZ
Email: president@reflexology.org.nz

Suzanne - President  An ‘outside of the square’ conversation with a car dealer introduced me to Reflexology. Let me hold your hand. Yes see! You have crystals in these finger tips. Silly man I thought and gave him credit for a novel way to get to hold my hand, then he produced Eunice Inghams book on Reflexology, I borrowed it and it changed the whole direction of my life.

That was ten years ago. I received my Practitioner Qualification from the Holistic School of Reflexology in 2002 and have been greatly influenced by Chris Stormers integrated Body Mind Soul philosophy. Reflexology is my primary therapy, over the years I have studied and participated in workshops presented by many leading international reflexologists.

Six years ago I decided to leave the corporate world and set up a full time Reflexology Clinic at our home in Avonside Christchurch. Our home is also the venue for the Southern Reflexology group meetings and many reflexology based activities. A double Aquarian with a Gemini moon I just love getting out there and have been deeply involved with the local reflexology group since its inception in 2002 and the RNZ council for the last six years. Personally I am competitive and have represented New Zealand in the Women’s Skeet shooting team and have bred English Springer Spaniels that have won many Gundog Trial awards.

Viv - SecretaryI am passionate about reflexology, practice reflexology from my own clinic and enjoy being an active member of Reflexology New Zealand.

I love to teach reflexology and am involved in the teaching of the Introduction to Reflexology course at the New Zealand College of Massage in Auckland and also tutor an introductory course at a Hamilton community college.Presently I am workingto get the Waikato School of Reflexology up and running.

I believe wholeheartedly in the benefits of reflexology for people of all ages.  I encourage people from all walks of life to try reflexology as a valid and worthwhile modality for a wide variety of ailments.  For me there is nothing better than seeing a client achieve positive results through reflexology

Sally - CPDI took this role in 2008. My background is in general and psychiatric nursing, adult teaching, and holistic health. I also spent some time in retail management.

From 2001, I designed and delivered a mental health module at Wellpark College in Auckland, and also was involved in redesigning the interpersonal skills module there, which I taught part time for 3 years. I also helped out with marking anatomy and physiology assignments at Wellpark. I left my part time work there to focus on my private practice.

I trained in reflexology at the Naturopathic College of NZ in New Plymouth, and have had a holistic clinic in Wellsford for 3 years. I offer personal development and basic introduction to reflexology workshops from the clinic, and also with the local community education programme.

My passion is to facilitate optimum health for as many people as possible, which to me encompasses the mind, body and spirit.I have joined the RNZ council to contribute to the profession and am sure I will learn a lot from my senior colleagues. I look forward to all there is ahead.

Membership Registrar - Doreen O'Sullivan MRNZ
Email: membership@reflexology.org.nz

Doreen - MembershipI’ve been practicing reflexology professionally since obtaining my Diploma from the CCNM Christchurch in 2006.Studying reflexology is the best thing I’ve ever done.

Prior to this wonderful life change I spent my working life being incredibly bored in office admin., with the exception of a stint on a heather farm in Scotland!

I now work from my home in Timaru, and enjoy each day that brings someone through the door for a treatment. It’s an honour and joy to see the difference that can occur during a session, and I advocate reflexology wherever I can.

Education Coordinator - Lynette Anne MRNZ, RN, BA, MEd.
Email: education@reflexology.org.nz

Lynette - EducationI am passionate about Reflexology and am delighted that all the threads of my career to date have come together in a way that means I can give back to the Reflexology community a little in return for all I have gained from my fellow Reflexologists.

I live in Christchurch and practise from a purpose built clinic attached to my house. At the same time I maintain my education links with employment through Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology as a nurse educator. My other employment is as a contractor to a Government organisation as an auditor. All the work I do contributes directly to my RNZ Council role, a serendipity that I thank the Universe for.

Reflexology practice I have a particular interest in working with pregnant women, I find the efficacy of Reflexology amazing for any of the conditions that can go with pregnancy. I also enjoy integrating my nursing and education backgrounds into work with clients along with chi and ayurvedic techniques for reflexology.

Research Coordinator - Barbara MacLean MRNZ
Email: research@reflexology.org.nz

Barbara - Research

My background has been centred on living a rural life style as a farmer’s wife and mother of four children. I returned back to nursing and the work force after 20 years absence, presently working part time on a surgical ward. I have up-skilled by completing a Registered nurse to Bachelor of Nursing programme in 2007 along with multiple in-service courses at the hospital and currently hold the link nurse position for cultural safety.

I was introduced to reflexology in 2004 which opened my eyes, mind and heart to the power of complementary therapies. In conjunction with a daily meditation practice and the insight this has to offer.

My vision is to pursue all possibilities of how complementary medicine and therapies can be integrated with biomedicine. I see one way is by understanding the biomedicine model of research via a nursing and holistic view point, applying and or adapting to fit reflexology. A fascinating journey albeit a somewhat complex one to understand the what, how and why of research processes.

I see my role as introducing and facilitating awareness, knowledge and exposure of available Reflexology research and the research process to RNZ members. By sharing this knowledge so that we can utilize research readily and establish an evidenced based practice.

Ultimately I see this as one of many stages toward integrated optimum holistic health for us all.
